Hunt Valley, Maryland (11 January 2024)—EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc., PBC (EA), a leading provider of interdisciplinary environmental services, has been awarded a second consecutive contract under the firm’s General Services Administration Multiple Award Schedule to provide coastal engineering and hazards support to the National Park Service (NPS). Work in support of the Coastal Program within the Water Resources Division (WRD) will include technical review of proposed coastal engineering concepts, designs, models, reports, compliance documentation, and technical proposals; guidance and modeling support for coastal management activities and associated data collection and management; development of technical guidance and training; and documentation and analyses to understand the effects of climate change, including sea level rise, on park coastal resources and public access.
“For more than three decades, EA has worked on behalf of NPS, completing projects in over 100 national park system units located across the country, including two U.S. territories,” said Suzie Boltz, EA’s NPS Program Manager. “Our history of working with numerous NPS divisions and park units, combined with our familiarity with emerging guidance related to sea level rise projections, storm surge modeling, and innovative natural and nature-based solutions to coastal management challenges, assures WRD’s Coastal Program of the ability to readily respond to emerging needs with tailored deliverables that balance technical information, impacts to park resources, and unique park unit management priorities.”
Under the predecessor contract supporting the Coastal Geology Program, which was awarded in September 2020, EA provided environmental, geologic, engineering, and resource expertise and capacity in support of coastal units within the national park system. Tasks involved strategies to address the impacts of climate change at coastal units across the nation, including Saint Croix Island International Historic Site in Maine, Padre Island National Seashore in Texas, and Golden Gate National Recreation Area in California.
Coastal settings, where natural and built environments meet, have long posed dynamic challenges for managers who must protect and restore them. Rising sea levels, and the increasing intensity and frequency of storm events, have exacerbated those challenges and created new concerns and urgency. EA provides our clients with a variety of services to help them understand potential vulnerability and improve resilience through incorporation of nature-based solutions.
