Biographies
James Costello – Director, Strategic Project Controls | SVP
Jim has four decades of experience and joined EA in 2011. He serves as a Program Manager for EA’s contracts with the numerous federal clients including U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and U.S. Army Environmental Center. He was promoted to Vice President in 2020 and Director, Strategic Project Controls focusing on remediation project risk management earlier this year. Jim earned a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Edinboro University and is a registered Professional Geologist in Florida.
Kim Nelson – Director, Federal Programs | SVP
Kim joined EA in 2016 and has more than 35 years of experience in the environmental industry. She served as Army Client Program Manager before her promotion to Vice President and Director of Federal Programs earlier this year. She is a licensed Professional Geologist in Wyoming and an active member of the Society of American Military Engineers and the Engineering Society of Baltimore Board of Directors. Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Geology and English Literature from Augustana College.
Pat Appel – Manager, Texas Operations | VP
Pat has over 23 years of diverse experience in the environmental field. He joined EA as a Senior Scientist and Project Manager in 2015 and took on management of the firm’s Dallas operations in 2020. Pat has a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Fort Lewis College and a master’s in environmental science from the University of North Texas. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute.
Bradford Bigler – Associate Counsel | VP
Brad joined EA earlier this year. He is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and received his law degree from the University of California at Los Angeles. Brad also obtained two Master of Laws degrees—one from the University of Virginia School of Law and a second in military law from the Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School. He is a member of the Bar and licensed to practice in California; Virginia; and Washington, D.C.
Jennifer Martin Bouchard – Manager, Seattle, Washington Operations | VP
Jen is a Senior Geologist with more than 24 years of experience—all at EA. She transitioned to Seattle Operations Manager in Fall 2022. Jen earned her Bachelor of Arts in Geology from Franklin and Marshall College and a Master of Science in Geology from Utah State University. She is a licensed Professional Geologist in New York and Tennessee and a certified PMP.
Michael Chanov – Director, EA Ecotoxicology Laboratory | VP
With 18 years of experience, Mike joined EA in 2009 as a scientist and took on the role of Director for EA’s Ecotoxicology Laboratory in 2017. Four years later, he was promoted to Laboratory Operations Manager, responsible for oversight of both the ecotoxicology and treatability laboratories. Mike earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in biological science from Virginia Tech.
Ivy Harvey – Director, Army Programs | VP
Ivy is a senior engineer and program manager with two decades of industry experience. She joined EA in 2005, served as a project manager for 10 years, and moved into client program management 5 years ago. Ivy received bachelor’s degrees in chemical engineering and French from Montana State University and completed a master’s in environmental engineering at Johns Hopkins University. She is a registered Professional Engineer in Maryland and a certified PMP. Ivy was recognized earlier this year by Water For People with a Kenneth J. Miller Founder’s Award.
Michael Hertz – National Service Line Program Manager, Site Characterization and Remediation | VP
Mike has 24 years of experience performing and managing environmental investigations and remediation. In his current role, he is responsible for marketing and identifying new business opportunities for EA’s Site Characterization and Remediation services. Mike is also responsible for large account proposal development, identifying new service areas, and assisting EA’s operating units with business plans. He earned his Bachelor of Science in geological sciences from Ohio State University and is a registered Professional Geologist in Delaware, North Carolina, Virginia, and New York.
Kevin Kowalk – Deputy Director, Sediment Management/Program Manager | VP
Kevin’s 20+-year career has focused on environmental site characterization, remediation, and ecosystem restoration. He serves as EA’s Deputy Sediment Practice Lead and Program Manager for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 Great Lakes National Program Office – Great Lakes Architect/Engineering Services Contract as well as for three EPA Region 5 Remedial Acquisition Framework Contracts: Design and Engineering Services, Environmental Services and Operations, and Remediation Environmental Services. Kevin holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biosystems engineering from Michigan State University and is a registered Professional Engineer in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.
Amy Lambert – Director, Communications | VP
With a career spanning more than 35 years in the architecture/engineering industry, Amy brings her experience in communications, marketing, and media/public relations to her role as EA’s Director of Communications. She is responsible for development and management of branding, messaging, and strategy to engage employees, clients, and the public. Amy has a Bachelor of Science in Business from Johns Hopkins University and is a Certified Professional Services Marketer through the Society of Marketing Professional Services.
Geoffrey Little – Program Manager | VP
Geoff has more than 26 years of experience in the environmental compliance, construction, and engineering fields. He is EA’s technical lead and Program Manager for the firm’s military fuels program management and leak detection testing and monitoring services, a program supporting Defense Logistics Agency–Energy at federal locations worldwide through multiple U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Air Force contract mechanisms. Geoff has a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Wilkes University and is a Registered Environmental Manager through the National Registry of Environmental Professionals.
Ronald Mack – Manager, New England Operations | VP
A registered Professional Engineer in Rhode Island as well as Maine, Ohio, and New York, Ron has over 17 years of environmental engineering and management experience. Currently, he is responsible for the operational performance of EA’s New England operations including financial, client, and personnel management; technical product quality; client satisfaction; and business development. Ron earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Roger Williams University.
Robert Marcase – Director, Corporate Health and Safety | VP
Rob has more than 27 years of experience across a wide range of programs, including environmental, health, and safety; industrial hygiene; and hazardous waste site support. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Slippery Rock University and is a Certified Industrial Hygienist through the American Board of Industrial Hygiene, a Certified Safety Professional through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, and a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) by the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management.
Jason McNew – Program Manager/Senior Engineer | VP
Jason has more than 24 years of experience in the performance and management of multidisciplinary investigations and remediation addressing environmental issues. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in 18 states and a CHMM by the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Geo-Environmental Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.
Arthur Peitsch – Manager, Michigan Operations | VP
Art joined EA in 2014 as a Senior Scientist and was promoted to Operations Manager for the firm’s Brighton office in 2022. His career spans more than 25 years and has involved a variety of environmental services including soil/groundwater investigation and remediation, environmental compliance, due diligence, and construction oversight for federal, state, and private clients. Art holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Michigan and is a certified PMP.
Jason Samus – Director, Technology Solutions | VP
Jason has 25 years of experience leading and managing enterprise application and database development, commercial system implementation, and business analysis consulting projects focused on environmental, analytical, and geospatial information. In his current role, he is leading the firm’s digital transformation strategy including the adoption of state-of-the-art analysis, visualization, and modeling tools and the expansion of technology-based client solutions and capabilities. He has a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Chemistry from Washington College and a Master of Business Administration from Loyola College.
