Sediment and Soil Toxicity Testing

soil sediment testing

The laboratory’s capacity for these studies is substantial. The laboratory can readily accommodate simultaneous testing for the water, soil, and sedimentsoil sediment testing samples with large, dedicated temperature controlled rooms designed for soil and sediment testing. This capacity minimizes the need for scheduling multiple field collection efforts, which further reduces the time needed to produce a final report.

Sediment toxicity tests performed at EA include:

  • Hyalella azteca (Survival, Growth, and Fecundity)
  • Chironomus dilutus (Survival and Growth)
  • Lumbriculus variegatus (Survival)
  • Lumbriculus variegatus (Bioaccumulation)
  • Leptocheirus plumulosus (Survival, Growth, and Fecundity)
  • Ampelisca abdita (Survival)
  • Neanthes arenaceodentata (Survival and Growth)
  • Americamysis bahia (Survival and Growth)
  • Repoxynius abronius (Survival)
  • Eohaustorius estuarius (Survival)
  • Mytilus sp. (Larval Development)
  • Strongylocentrotus sp. (Larval Development).

Routine soil toxicity tests performed at EA include:

  • Earthworm (Eisenia foetida) (Survival and Bioaccumulation)
  • Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) (Seed Germination and Emergence)
  • Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) (Root-Elongation)
  • Japanese Millfoil (Echinochloa crusgalli) (Early Seedling Growth Test).

Additional sediment and soil toxicity testing methods and test species are available upon request. EA toxicologists can assist in the development of a testing plan that effectively meets project requirements.
