EnviTreat performed a 4-phase test for a rendering facility. Phase I included analytical measurements to identify characteristics that can interfere with aerobic treatment; Phase II included respirometric testing to determine biodegradation characteristics of the wastewater, including potential toxic impacts. Phase III provided biological and physical parameters needed to support the design of a full-scale treatment process, including conditions needed to achieve nitrification. Phase IV involved addition of quaternary ammonium compounds to the Phase III reactor mixed liquors to determine their impact on nitrification reactions.
Test results showed that nitrification of the waste was achievable, determined the dose rate of macro and micro nutrient needed to sustain the biomass, determined biomass yields and effluent chemical oxygen demand concentrations, proved that settling characteristics of the stable process were favorable, and developed process parameters needed for full scale design.
