Since 2002, EA has been working with public and private partners to restore ecological functions to the Woonasquatucket River Watershed. The Woonasquatucket River, a federally designated “American Heritage River” by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency located in north central Rhode Island, was heavily used during the Industrial Revolution. As part of the efforts to restore habitat for blueback herring and alewife in the river upstream of the Manton Mill Pond Dam, EA was selected to provide biological, geotechnical and cultural resource assessment, engineering design and permitting services to the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council for the Manton Dam nature-like fishway. The project involved biological, geotechnical and structural assessments; hydraulic and hydrologic modeling using HEC-RAS; preparation of 30, 60, and 100 percent engineering designs; Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permitting; and bid specifications.
