Melissa Smith Selected for SAME Foundation President’s Advisory Council

Headshot of Melissa SmithHunt Valley, Maryland (2 September 2026)—EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc., PBC (EA), a leading provider of interdisciplinary environmental services, is pleased to announce that Melissa Smith, F.SAME, CSDP, CFSBLO, Vice President, has been selected to serve on the President’s Advisory Council of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Foundation. In this position, Smith will advise the Foundation’s President and Board on matters of importance involving programs, communications, fundraising, and investment management. Smith is one of only three professionals who are to serve on this newly created leadership committee.

The SAME Foundation was established in 2016 to foster engineering leadership for the nation. With the help of generous donors and sponsors, the Foundation has invested in programs that help introduce youth to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), mentor and support them on their journey to STEM careers, and develop emerging leaders within the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industry.

“Throughout her career, Melissa has demonstrated a strong commitment to expanding opportunities within the engineering profession through supplier diversity, mentoring, and community engagement,” said Major General Tim Byers, F.SAME (Dist.) USAF (Ret.), SAME Foundation Chair. “Her experience fostering collaboration among government, industry, and small businesses will bring valuable insight to the SAME Foundation as it works to expand leadership development, promote workforce diversity, and build stronger pathways into engineering careers.”

Smith has been an integral member of the EA team for more than 2 decades, directing the firm’s Small Business Program since 2013. For more than 25 years, she has been an active member of SAME, holding numerous leadership positions. Smith was inducted into the SAME Academy of Fellows in 2011 and honored with its National Small Business Award in 2023.

“Melissa has been a steady and trusted leader in EA’s Federal market for many years, bringing deep knowledge of small business partnerships, client programs, and SAME’s role in connecting industry and government,” said Kim Nelson, EA Senior Vice President and Director of Federal Programs. “Her long-standing service in SAME leadership positions has helped strengthen the firm’s visibility, relationships, and program growth across the Federal marketplace, and that perspective will be a strong asset to the Foundation’s President’s Advisory Council.”

Founded in 1920, SAME brings together government, industry, and academic professionals to advance engineering solutions that support national security. Through conferences, workshops, networking events, leadership programs, publications, webinars, technical sessions, and other member-focused activities, SAME offers its 25,000 members broad opportunities to learn, connect, and grow professionally.
