Hunt Valley, Maryland (29 October 2025)—EA is proud to announce that its remediation work at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Wyckoff-Eagle Harbor Superfund Site was honored by the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Seattle and Mount Tacoma Posts with 2025 Small Business Project of Excellence Awards in the Collaboration category as well as for Best Overall Project. This recognition celebrates exceptional projects in the Northwest Region that exemplify innovation, excellence, and outstanding teamwork.
The Wyckoff-Eagle Harbor Superfund Site, located on Bainbridge Island, Washington, is a complex remediation effort addressing soil, groundwater, and sediment contaminated by creosote resulting from operations of the former Wyckoff wood-treating facility. The work focused on two operable units and included the demolition of thermal treatment pilot infrastructure, upgrades to the existing groundwater treatment system, and site preparation for a new seawall and in situ soil stabilization.
“These awards are a testament to the power of collaboration and shared vision,” said Jennifer Martin Bouchard, EA Vice President and Pacific Business Unit Director. “The Wyckoff-Eagle Harbor project brought together diverse teams, united by a commitment to innovation and excellence, to deliver lasting benefits for the Bainbridge Island community.”
The project stands out not only for its technical complexity and environmental impact but also for its collaboration and execution under pressure. To meet an aggressive 9-month schedule, EA mobilized a multi-disciplinary team of up to 20 field personnel, 4 drill rigs, and several specialty subcontractors. The project operated under direct EPA oversight and in coordination with EPA’s two other contractor teams working on site. Challenges were resolved through proactive problem-solving and open communication. This spirit of collaboration ensured the project stayed on track and laid a strong foundation for the next phase of remediation.
