Colleen Rust Elected as SAME Southwest Regional Vice President

Headshot of Colleen RustHunt Valley, Maryland (9 July 2024)—EA, a leading provider of interdisciplinary environmental services, is proud to announce that Colleen Rust was elected as the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Southwest Regional Vice President. She will serve a 2-year term ending in June of 2026. The Southwest Region includes posts in New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and west Texas.

“As the incoming Southwest Regional Vice President, I look forward to building on the foundation of my predecessor. My initiatives are centered on providing communications, mentorship, and guidance between our Southwest Regions Posts and the SAME National Board of Direction, National Office, and post-level leadership,” said Colleen. “Through collaboration, I hope to support the revitalization of the Tularosa Basin and Las Vegas posts and grow their active membership. Plans are in progress to join forces between posts and setup a regional 1-day conference focusing on dwindling water resources in the southwest.”

SAME was founded in 1920 to facilitate collaboration between government and industry leaders in developing solutions to national security infrastructure challenges. The organization brings together architects, engineers, scientists, contractors, environmental and facility managers, cyber security specialists, project planners, contracting and acquisition personnel, and much more to support national security.

“With her solid record of achievement and infectious enthusiasm, Colleen will be an outstanding Southwest Regional Vice President,” said Melissa Smith, EA Vice President and Small Business Liaison Officer. “Already, she has laid the groundwork for two of her initiatives—revitalizing SAME’s Tularosa Basin and Las Vegas posts and increasing SAME support of science, technology, engineering, and math, including computer science (STEM) activities for Native American youth—and I have no doubt, that this is just the beginning.”

Colleen joined EA’s Albuquerque, New Mexico, office last year as a Project Manager and a Professional Geologist licensed in Washington, Arizona, Alaska, and Texas. Her experience includes more than 16 years of environmental services experience as a Project Manager, Quality Assurance/Quality Control Manager, Site Safety and Health Officer, and Professional Geologist with contaminated sites throughout the western United States. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Texas A&M University and a Master of Science in Hydrogeology from Washington State University. Colleen has served leadership roles in SAME since 2017.
