Headshot of Amy HuntHunt Valley, Maryland (8 October 2024)—EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc., PBC (EA), a leading provider of interdisciplinary environmental services, is proud to announce that Amy Hunt, PE, was elected as Chair of the Joint Committee on Fisheries Engineering and Science, a nexus standing committee formed by the American Fisheries Society Bioengineering Section (AFS-BES) and American Society of Civil Engineers Environmental and Water Resource Institute (ASCE-EWRI). She has been involved with the Joint Committee since 2010 and has served as secretary since 2017.

In addition to numerous organizational responsibilities, Amy’s role as chair involves leading work to progress the Joint Committee in the fisheries engineering and science fields and representing their mission. She will also serve as the Joint Committee’s liaison with both AFS-BES and ASCE-EWRI.

“The committee is comprised of fish passage, fish screening, hydropower, and habitat protection and restoration professionals from across the globe,” said Amy. Through our webinars and conferences, I’ve had the opportunity to learn from other professionals on the state of the science in fish passage and habitat protection and enhancement. Through my new leadership role, I will strive to continue the Joint Committee’s efforts to ensure that fisheries professionals have ongoing opportunities to share best practices, spur innovation, make connections, and foster collaboration.”

The Joint Committee was created as a forum for professional fisheries engineers, scientists, and related disciplines representing public agencies, academia, and the private sector to share knowledge and expand the range of potential solutions to problems in aquatic management and restoration. Through ASCE-EWRI and AFS-BES, the Joint Committee organizes and hosts webinars, an annual conference, and bestows awards for professionals focused on fish passage.

With more than 23 years of experience, Amy joined EA as a senior engineer and project manager in 2012. She has been responsible for the management of numerous restoration projects within the coastal United States and has led a variety of successful ecosystem restoration projects, including efforts restoring tidal flow to degraded salt marsh systems, opening acres of freshwater spawning by removing dams or installing fish ladders, and improving habitat in floodplains utilizing hydraulic and hydrologic modeling to identify areas of fill removal for floodplain restoration. Amy earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering and is licensed as a Professional Engineer in Connecticut, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Vermont. She is also a certified Invasive Plant Manager by the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council.
