Hunt Valley, Maryland (17 December 2024)—EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc., PBC (EA), a leading provider of interdisciplinary environmental services, has been selected by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers–Baltimore District for an Optimized Remediation Contract (ORC) for services at Joint Base Cape Cod (JBCC). Support provided to the U.S. Air Force will include design and expansion of pump and treat remedial systems for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, operations and maintenance of existing treatment facilities, maintenance of existing wind turbines, performance optimization and long-term management, and achievement of site-specific objectives at 16 Installation Restoration Program sites and one Military Munitions Response Response Program site located at JBCC. The contract has an anticipated value of $48 million over the ORC’s 10-year term.
“This award is a testament to the firm’s decade-plus commitment to supporting environmental efforts at JBCC,” said Gordy Porter, EA Senior Vice President and Business Unit Director. “Our unique experience and unparalleled understanding of operations has informed our approach to assist the Department of Defense in navigating regulatory requirements as it strives to achieve site closures.”
The Installation Restoration Program began investigating and cleaning up contamination at Joint Base Cape Cod in the 1980s, prior to the base being listed on the Superfund National Priorities List at the end of the decade. Remedies include multiple groundwater treatment systems supported by wind turbines that offset 100 percent of the electrical power required.
EA has successfully assisted the Department of Defense with more than $175 million of performance-based remediation and ORC services nationally. This experience includes achieving site closure at 97 sites and response complete, remedy-in-place, or implementation of optimized exit strategies at more than 70 additional sites.
