Hunt Valley, Maryland (29 May 2024)—EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc., PBC (EA), a leading provider of interdisciplinary environmental services, has been selected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to modify the existing groundwater treatment and extraction system and demolish the thermal pilot test infrastructure within two operable units at the Wyckoff/Eagle Harbor Superfund Site, located on Bainbridge Island in Puget Sound, Washington. The task order, funded at more than $13 million, is being performed for EPA Region 10 through a Remediation Environmental Services contract awarded under the EPA Remedial Acquisition Framework.
The Wyckoff/Eagle Harbor Superfund Site includes the former Wyckoff Company wood-treating facility on the southern shore of Eagle Harbor. EA’s task order focuses on the current monitoring/extraction wellfield and the thermal pilot test structure, which was built to evaluate the effectiveness of steam-enhanced extraction to remove contaminants from upland soil and groundwater. Once the pilot system is demolished, existing groundwater wells will be replaced to facilitate future cleanup activities including in situ soil stabilization to treat contaminated soils and groundwater.
“Over the last two decades, EA has worked on hundreds of EPA task orders across the country with a combined value of more than $700 million,” said Lou Barinka, Vice President and Program Manager for EA’s EPA programs. “We are excited to have a new opportunity to showcase our capacity to support EPA on another large-scale remedial action at a Superfund site in Region 10.”
EA has experience working at numerous other wood-treating sites—most recently on the remedial design, remedial action, and long-term response action at a 12-acre creosote Superfund site in Texas.
