In 2010, the Port of Seattle implemented the Green Gateway program to recognize customers and tenants that have adopted green practices that go “beyond compliance” supporting voluntary standards aligned with port sustainability. EA assisted the Port with development of the awards program, which recognizes the comprehensive environmental achievements of the Port’s maritime operators including vessel carriers and cruise lines. Initially, EA benchmarked best practices in EHS management and sustainability from the cruise and carrier industry, assisted with development of the program questionnaire, and provided peer review of application materials submitted for consideration. Green Gateway Partners applications were evaluated by a EA as a third-party and awards were made based on environmental best practices and innovative approaches identified in the benchmarking. The Port of Seattle recognized its initial class of awardees in 2010. EA continues to assist the Port in its benchmarking and evaluation of sustainable best practices. https://www.portseattle.org/news/port-seattle-honors-green-gateway-partners-awards.
