EA Issues Inaugural Corporate Social Responsibility Report and Public Benefit Corporation Statement

Hunt Valley, Maryland (6 January 2017)—EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc., PBC (EA), a leading provider of interdisciplinary environmental services, announced today the issuance of its inaugural Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) Report and Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) Statement, covering calendar years 2014 and 2015. The report, EA’s fourth biennial narrative (formerly published as its Sustainability Report), signifies its transition to a more comprehensive publication resulting from a series of changes that took place in December 2014: becoming 100% employee-owned through its Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), and registering as a PBC under Delaware law. The full document is available for review on EA’s website at www.eaest.com.

Brought to life through a PBC framework built upon the foundation of its long-established sustainability program, EA’s status as an employee-owned PBC fully embraces the “conscious capitalism” movement—whereby for-profit companies like EA achieve their fiscal goals while remaining mindful of the company’s broader impact on society and the environment. This new operating paradigm positions EA to meet the evolving needs of its clients while achieving the specific public benefits expressed in its company charter.

Highlights and accomplishments noted in the report include:

  • The appointment of EA’s first Director of CSR, its first Small Business Liaison Officer, and establishment of a PBC Committee reporting to EA’s Board of Directors
  • Continued commitment to public disclosure of its CSR efforts based on Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines
  • Formalization of a strategic partnership with Water For People as the focal point of EA’s philanthropy efforts
  • Formalized plans for a new Supplier Portal to enhance opportunities for small and disadvantaged businesses, as well as include sustainability considerations in EA’s supply chain
  • Employee participation in EA’s first Gallup employee engagement survey
  • Introduction of a Paid Volunteer Time program to encourage participation on mission-aligned volunteerism efforts.

“This report discloses our CSR efforts during the 2014–2015 reporting period, and sets the foundation for reporting on our efforts to achieve the specific public benefits articulated in our company charter,” noted Ian MacFarlane, EA’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Through this, and future reports, EA will measure, report, and promote its specific public benefits as it remains focused exclusively on the delivery of professional environmental services.”
