Timothy Haakenstad, P.E., Recognized for Outstanding Contributions to Nebraska Agriculture

Hunt Valley, Maryland (8 November 2016)—EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc., PBC (EA), a leading provider of interdisciplinary environmental services, announced today that Timothy (Tim) Haakenstad, P.E., was honored with the 2016 Outstanding Contributions to Nebraska Agriculture Award by the Nebraska Section of the American Society of Agriculture and Biological Engineers (ASABE). The award was presented on 7 October during the Nebraska Section’s Fall Meeting held in Omaha.

With specialized expertise in conserving natural resources by implementing water quality and quantity improvement practices, Tim has dedicated his entire career to Nebraska agriculture. His commitment to Nebraska agriculture continues today as a Senior Water Resources Engineer with EA, where he provides technical guidance and review of natural resources projects within Nebraska and across the nation. Prior to joining EA, Tim worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) for 32 years, where he started as a Design Engineer and recently retired as the Nebraska NRCS State Conservation Engineer. During his tenure, he worked on a wide range of agricultural projects, focusing on irrigation practices and agricultural waste management. Also, Tim served a key role in watershed basin planning and flood control construction to protect agricultural lands.

“It is quite an honor to be recognized by your peers, and it is only fitting that the Nebraska Section of ASABE selected Tim for this prestigious award,” stated Dale Schlautman, P.E., Manager of EA’s Lincoln, Nebraska operations. “Tim’s commitment to promoting a balance between agricultural operations and environmental protection, specifically related to water resources, exemplifies his outstanding contributions to Nebraska agriculture and his dedication to providing benefits for future generations of Nebraskans.”

A professional engineer licensed by the State of Nebraska, Tim earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska. For decades, Tim has been actively partnering with agricultural landowners, state agencies, and Natural Resource Districts to conserve and protect the state’s natural resources.
