EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. Recognized with 2014 Honor Award from American Council of Engineering Companies/Maryland

EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. Honored with Business Achievement Award for Growth of its Contaminated Sediment Management Practice

Hunt Valley, Maryland (11 April 2014)—EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. (EA), a leading provider of interdisciplinary environmental services, today announced that the baseline bacterial source tracking project being conducted on behalf of the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) was recognized with a 2014 Honor Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies/Maryland. This program applies innovative science to characterize long-term water quality trends associated with improvements to WSSC’s sewer collection system in Prince George’s and Montgomery counties. The award was presented to EA during a ceremony on 20 February 2014 at The Engineers Club in Baltimore, Maryland.

For 8 years, EA has been employing testing methodologies and data evaluation processes to identify the source of bacteria found in surface waters within Prince George’s and Montgomery counties. Currently, a DNA fingerprint system is being employed on this project; however, given the rapid evolution of the science, the results and methodologies of the program are reevaluated on a periodic basis to ensure the most advanced testing methods are being utilized. In addition, public stakeholder meetings are an integral part of this program and there is routine collaboration with federal and state agencies as well as various citizen groups.

“For 40 years, EA has been evaluating ways to improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay watershed,” said Ian MacFarlane, EA’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “The bacterial source tracking project is an excellent example of how EA works with our clients and key stakeholders to address complex issues using the latest advances in water quality science. We are honored to receive this recognition, and proud to support WSSC in their effort to improve the communities and environs of Prince George’s and Montgomery counties.”

The EA project team is led by Mike Powell, Project Manager and Technical Point of Contact. He can be reached by email at mpowell@eaest.com or by telephone at 410-584-7000.
