EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. Wins Engineering Excellence Merit Award from ACEC/Nebraska for North Star Wetland Enhancement and Education Project

Hunt Valley,  Maryland  (10    May    2013)    —   EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. (EA), a leading provider of interdisciplinary environmental services, today announced that its efforts on the North Star Wetland Enhancement and Education project earned a 2012 Engineering Excellence Merit Award, under the Environmental category, from the American Council of Engineering Companies–Nebraska (ACEC/NE). The award was conferred on EA in a ceremony held in Omaha, Nebraska, on 19 February 2013.

This very collaborative project achieved both its goals: restore the functional value of the wetland, and enhance the wetland’s ability to serve as a teaching tool for students at North Star High School, which is located on the property. EA was involved in the project from its beginning and was responsible for conceptual, draft, and final design; permitting; and construction oversight. The project includes several unique features such as an Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalk and ramp that make this living laboratory easily accessible to students with disabilities. P artners on this project included the City of Lincoln, Lower Platte South Natural Resources District, North Star High School, and Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality.

“As environmental professionals, this was a very rewarding project for us,” stated Dale Schlautman, Manager of EA’s Lincoln office. “It is our hope that the hands-on educational opportunities provided by the wetland will promote a greater appreciation of our natural environment among the students.”
