EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. Recognized with 2013 Honor Award From American Council of Engineering Companies/Maryland

Hunt   Valley,   Maryland   (12    April    2013)    —   EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. (EA), a leading provider of interdisciplinary environmental services, today announced that its efforts on the Pawtuxet River Restoration Dam Removal Project in Rhode Island were recognized with a 2013 Honor Award by American Council of Engineering Companies/Maryland. The project is the largest ecological dam removal project in state history.

Supporting the Pawtuxet River Authority, EA’s role in this restoration project was to conduct preliminary investigations, support regulatory coordination and application submissions, and provide final design and engineering services through the completion of construction. This highly collaborative and complex project restored 7 miles of free-flowing river habitat to one of the state’s largest and most historic waterways, increasing its velocity and reducing river depth in the adjacent upstream reach by 2-3 feet. The project achieved the goals of reducing flood occurrences, improving water quality, and restoring boating access, in addition to providing full and open passage for native migratory fish.

“Given its urban setting, the Pawtucket River Restoration Dam Removal Project was an exceedingly complex project, which makes selection for this award that much more satisfying,” said Michael Battle, EA’s Chief Operating Officer. “Our project team, led by Samuel Whitin, did a fantastic job addressing the challenges associated with this project and communicating its progression to project stakeholders and the local community.”
