EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. Acquires Blumen Consulting Group, Inc.
Move Strengthens Firm’s Presence in the Pacific Northwest

Hunt Valley, Maryland (6 October 2010)—Leading environmental, engineering, and program/construction management services firm EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. (EA) announced today the acquisition of Blumen Consulting Group, Inc., a 12-person professional services firm based in Kirkland, Washington that provides State and National Environmental Policy Act (SEPA and NEPA) compliance, land use permitting, community planning, and project/team coordination and management services. Blumen Consulting Group, Inc. will initially conduct business as “EA|Blumen.”

Founded in 2002, Blumen Consulting Group has successfully prepared over 250 Environmental Impact Statements under SEPA and NEPA for a diverse set of public and private-sector clients. The firm’s land use permitting and entitlement efforts have included major regulatory approvals, such as comprehensive plan amendments/rezones, master plan approvals, and Shoreline Management Act compliance. Many of Blumen Consulting Group’s projects have been large, complex projects requiring the effective coordination of technical disciplines and a creative approach to the entitlement and SEPA and NEPA compliance process.

“Becoming part of EA is a win-win for both our employees and clients,” said Michael Blumen, President of Blumen Consulting Group. “We now have access to a greater number of technical experts across a wider range of service areas, which will certainly prove beneficial to our loyal customers.” He added, “Our employees are excited to be part of EA—a firm with a rich history, complementary core values, and an excellent client base—the opportunities for career growth are substantial.” With EA|Blumen, Michael Blumen will assume the position of Director of Planning and Environmental Review, helping to grow EA’s planning, environmental review, and land use entitlement service offerings nationwide.

“I’m excited to welcome Blumen Consulting Group employees into the EA family” said Ian MacFarlane, EA’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “This acquisition supports our strategy to increase the critical mass of our staff and diversify the expertise of our Seattle operation. In addition to strengthening EA’s environmental planning and SEPA and NEPA compliance service platform, EA|Blumen staff brings specialized expertise in local government planning, permitting, and mitigation strategies, which will prove beneficial to our existing portfolio of clients.”
