Hunt Valley, Maryland (7 May 2010)óEA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. (EA), a leading provider of environmental, engineering, geospatial, and infrastructure support services, announced today that it has been awarded a contract to accurately map existing broadband facilities throughout the state of Rhode Island. The contract, with an initial value of $551,384, was awarded through a competitive procurement process by the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC).

As part of government efforts to develop, improve, and expand broadband access and services, funding for this contract is being provided by the National Telecommunications and Information Administrationís (NTIAís) State Broadband Data and Development Grant Program, part of the American Reinvestment & Recovery Act of 2009. Under this contract, EA is responsible for ensuring that all public and private broadband provider facilities within Rhode Island are accurately provided to NTIA for use in analyzing future infrastructure grants and for display purposes on NTIAís national broadband map.

As part of the broadband map development process, Rhode Island residents are encouraged to visit http://www.broadband.ri.gov and test their internet speed. This will allow measurement of current internet speed throughout the state and verification of data being collected for the map. The portal within the website is an interactive mapping tool providing residents with viewing and query capabilities of the collected broadband data.
