EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. Issues First Corporate Sustainability Report
Hunt Valley, Maryland (22 April 2010)—EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. (EA), a leading provider of environmental, engineering, and program/construction management services, published its Corporate Sustainability Report today in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. The report documents the formal establishment of EA’s company-wide environmental sustainability program, and highlights some of the early successes of the program.
EA launched its Corporate Sustainability Program in 2008 by engaging employees in a comprehensive survey to gain their perspective and map out a plan to implement a series of corporate-wide sustainable practices. Four key areas of EA’s operations were identified as having the greatest environmental impact: (1) material source and usage, (2) waste generation and deposition, (3) corporate travel and commuting, and (4) facilities management. Accordingly, these areas are the focus of the company’s sustainability efforts going forward. To date, notable program results include a 35 percent reduction in paper use at EA’s corporate headquarters, the recycling of more than 2,000 pounds of electronic equipment, and the purchase of carbon credits to offset some of the impact of EA’s corporate air travel. Most recently, the company began greening its fleet of vehicles with the addition of several hybrid vehicles.
“Earth Day focuses the public’s attention on the need to build a clean, healthy, and diverse world for generations to come,” said Ian MacFarlane, EA President and CEO. “It is an ideal day to publish our first Corporate Sustainability Report because it affirms our commitment and determination to be better stewards of the environment, and to make a positive impact in the communities we live and serve in the years ahead.”
As an environmental consulting company, EA’s ongoing sustainability commitment has long been reflected in the services it provides and the projects it completes, on behalf of its clients. EA has employed sustainability principles to improve environmental performance ever since the company was founded in 1973. From developing energysavings programs to implementing Environmental Management Systems, EA works closely with its clients to harness the power of renewable energy sources, conserve water and energy, decrease waste, and formulate integrated sustainability policies.
